A manifest is only as good as what is on the truck.

Every difference between a manifest and the load it describes becomes someone's problem at both ends of the transfer. Today Smoke Alarm works at the package level: the retailer's receiving firewall compares your manifest with what arrived, your own finished-package inventory is reconciled against Metrc, and a dispute carries the dock evidence. Building and verifying the outbound manifest before departure is on the roadmap, and this page says so.

Where it goes wrong today

The operational problems, not the scare stories.

  • Manifest quantities are typed from memory rather than scanned off the load.
  • A short or wrong package is discovered when the destination calls, days later.
  • Refusals and buybacks are settled over the phone with no record either side can point to.
  • Packages in the warehouse and packages in Metrc drift between transfers.
  • Each retailer keeps its own version of what was delivered, and none of them is yours.
How Smoke Alarm helps

What it does for you today, and what is still ahead.

Each card carries the honest status of the capability it rests on. Nothing on the roadmap is sold as live.

  • When the receiving retailer runs Smoke Alarm, your incoming transfer is read from Metrc and every package is scanned against it. Short, extra and wrong packages become cases with evidence, not phone calls.

  • A refusal, short delivery, buyback or expiration return reaches you on a secure link with the photos and counts behind it, so both sides settle from one record.

  • The finished packages you hold carry a state and every movement is attributed and timestamped: available, reserved, quarantined, returned.

  • Metrc's packages against your own records and your physical count, package by package, with a reproducible report. Reads only; never writes to Metrc.

  • The append-only record and the dated, fingerprinted binder for the packages you hold and the disputes you settle.

  • Outbound manifests and transfers

Scanning the load against the manifest before the truck leaves, and creating the outbound transfer. Smoke Alarm reads incoming transfers today; this is on the roadmap and not sold as live.
