An integrated store, built from parts you could replace tomorrow.
Smoke Alarm Integrated Store is the hardware a dispensary needs to run the register, the dock and a self-service kiosk on Smoke Alarm: commercial off-the-shelf devices, configured, tested and installed on site so the whole thing feels like one system. Every component stays replaceable, certified payment terminals connect only through a provider adapter, and there is no proprietary Smoke Alarm hardware.
Kits are sourced per deployment and priced as indicative ranges; no kit is stocked or sold from this site. The software that drives the devices is in pilot.
Register Kit
One station: the register a budtender works and the screen the customer sees.
- Indicative range
- $1,500–$2,500
- One-time, per kit, installed. Quoted after the site survey.
- Recurring software
- None
- No device charge. Register software is priced per completed transaction.
In the kit
- Commercial touchscreen with integrated compute
- 2D barcode, QR and ID-capable scanner
- Receipt printer
- Cash drawer
- Customer display
- UPS
- Network configuration
- Smoke Alarm configured and tested on site
Indicative ranges. Smoke Alarm integrates certified third-party hardware; it does not manufacture payment devices. Final configuration and pricing depend on the store's requirements and supplier pricing at the time of order.
Integrated experience. Replaceable components.
A store should never be locked to a device. These are the component classes an Integrated Store is assembled from; each is a commercial product with more than one supplier.
- Commercial POS display
- Compute device
- Customer display
- 2D barcode, QR and ID scanner
- Certified payment terminal
- Receipt printer
- Cash drawer
- Label printer
- Managed network equipment
- UPS
- Receiving tablet
- Kiosk
Payment terminals only through adapters
A certified third-party payment terminal joins a kit only where a contracted provider configures it, and it talks to the register through that provider's adapter. Smoke Alarm does not manufacture or certify payment devices. How payments are orchestrated.
No proprietary hardware
Nothing in a kit is made by Smoke Alarm. A failed printer is replaced with a printer, not with a support ticket to one vendor, and a store that leaves keeps hardware it can use.
The device layer is built and in pilot.
Every adapter reports what this browser can do and what is connected right now, and nothing claims a device works until the device has accepted the bytes and a person has confirmed the result.

Scanner wedge detection
Barcode and ID scanners in keyboard mode, the factory mode of nearly every handheld, need no driver and no permission. A scan is recognised by typing speed, not an Enter key, and never while a person is typing in another field.
- Preview
ID barcodes parsed on the device
The PDF417 barcode on a licence is captured with its line breaks and parsed on the register, which computes the age and the expiry. Only the computed answer leaves the hook; the scanned text never does.
- Preview
ESC/POS printing and drawer kick
Receipts render to ESC/POS for 58 mm and 80 mm rolls, with Code128 and QR barcodes and a cash-drawer pulse, over Web Serial or WebUSB in Chromium browsers on HTTPS. The browser print fallback is used when neither is available and is never reported as confirmed.
- Preview
ZPL labels
Package and shelf labels with the Metrc tag as a Code128 barcode and as text, rendered for 203 and 300 dpi label printers.

Device registration
Registers, kiosks, printers, scanners and tablets are registered per location. A device's token is shown exactly once and only its hash is stored; revoking a device stops it immediately, and registering, revoking and testing are audited.

The hardware test screen
Run on the station being tested, it steps through each device and records a pass, a fail or "not present" for receipt printer, cash drawer, barcode scanner, id scanner, label printer, with who ran it and when. Smoke Alarm staff have a bench test of their own that records nothing.
Web Serial and WebUSB exist only in Chromium browsers on desktop and ChromeOS, on pages served over HTTPS. Each store's device models are verified on site before go-live.
Professional Deployment.
Hardware arrives as part of a deployment, not in a box. The team surveys the site, installs and configures each station, tests every device and records the result before the go-live checklist can pass.
Professional Deployment
Availablefrom $1,500 per location
Starting price for one location. Multi-location and complex deployments are quoted after discovery.
